Suburban Planning

This map of a section of Orlando, Florida shows the shortest path for a person in house A to DRIVE to house B. Seven miles! they are next door neighbors with a common backyard, but it would take 20 minutes to get from one to the other by car.

What do you think about this?
What should the town planning commission do, if anything?
Is this just an "Orlando Thing"?

What other mathematical aspects of this caught your attention? What do you wonder about the situation?
